JFS Holiday Projects

ROSH HASHANAH
Rosh Hashanah 2010 begins September 8 and JFS has over 300 people requesting assistance to produce a holiday meal. JFS is collecting egg noodles, raisins, sugar and sugar substitutes so families can make noodle kugel (along with dairy items that will be purchased with cash donations). Apple slices dipped in honey are a treat traditionally associated with the holiday so we are also asking for donations of honey (to go with apples, also provided). Cash donations are also requested so we may purchase chickens for over 150 families. Donations can be mailed to the JFS office, 5801 West 115th Street Suite 103, Overland Park, KS 66211 or you can donate on-line click here.
CHANUKAH
Chanukah 2010 begins December 1, and with it comes requests from many families who cannot afford to purchase gifts, and older adults who feel alone, especially during holidays
Adopting a family or an older adult is a mitzvah and a lot of fun. With the help of a wish list filled out by the individual or family, you shop for someone who will truly appreciate your efforts. All gifts must be received by November 15 since Chanukah falls so early this year. Gift cards for grocery stores are always welcome, as are cash donations. Donations can be mailed to the JFS office, 5801 West 115th Street Suite 103, Overland Park, KS 66211or you can donate on-line click here.
Wrapping gifts for over 300 people could not be done without the help of JFS volunteers. The Chanukah Gift Wrap Party is always fun and the whole family can participate. Delivering gifts to older adults and families is another way that families can spend time together and practice tikun olam.
If you would like to know more about volunteering for a holiday project or adopting a family for Chanukah, contact Sondra Atherly at satherly@jfskc.org or 913-327-8265.
Do you need help?
Do you want to help others?

We have a variety of ways you can help ensure families in our community enjoy the holidays.
Donate Needed Items: As holiday time approaches, JFS publishes lists of needed items from kosher-for-Passover foods to Chanukah gifts to Shabbat candles and other items.
Offer financial support: Your generous support of the project enables families and individuals to continue their holiday traditions. You can donate on-line here, send us a check, or give us a call at (913) 327-8250.
Volunteer to put together packages and/or deliver them: We always need volunteers to help us package food and gifts, and then drivers to deliver them
