Volunteer

We have a JFS volunteer opportunity for every age and every stage.  In addition to how great it feels to help others, benefits include:

  • JFS volunteering makes a real difference in real lives.  You might be the reason an older adult without a car can still get to the doctor, send an e-mail to grandkids, or attend religious services.
  • Most opportunities work around your schedule – you pick how often and when you’re available.
  • We have projects that give all ages a chance to experience the joy of giving to others.
  • You can volunteer individually, with friends and family, or in groups.  The more the merrier.

To volunteer for any of the below opportunities,

please contact Adrienne at 913.327.8257 or akizer@jfskc.org

JET Express Volunteer Driver Program

When you volunteer as a JET Express driver, you use your own vehicle to give rides to older adults to help them stay active, independent, and connected to their community. Choose the rides you want to give based on your schedule. Pick how often and when you’re available. It’s a great way to make a real difference.

Extreme Yard Rakeover - Fall 2010 Edition

See a visible difference when you rake and pick up twigs in the yards of older adults before winter arrives. You can volunteer for yard work as a family, or in groups of all ages and types (through work, school, church or synagogue) – you pick any day and time within the first three weeks of November. It’s the perfect introduction to volunteering for kids and teenagers, and it’s a fun way to help your community.

Help@Home: an aging in place program

Are you handy, and enjoy helping out? Can you hang pictures, change high light bulbs, put together a new bookshelf, mow the grass, shovel the walk or do computer troubleshooting? Then volunteering with Help@Home is for you - the possibilities are endless!

Friendly Visitor Program

Call, visit or write an older adult, and change a life. You can help create comfort and connection through the simple pleasure of friendly conversation, a caring phone call or a monthly letter. Being a friendly visitor is great for adults, families, teenagers and college students.

JFS Holiday Projects

Our holiday projects help individuals and families for three holidays each year: Passover, Rosh Hashanah, and Chanukah. Traditional foods for Passover and Rosh Hashanah are provided, as are gifts for Chanukah. You can help in so many ways: donate holiday food, adopt a family for Chanukah, help package items, or make deliveries. There are great volunteer opportunities for individuals and for the whole family.

Attorney Referral Program

As a legal professional, you may already know there’s a growing need for legal services right here in our own community by low-income or disadvantaged clients. More and more, our clients need legal help, and JFS invites you to assist with one pro bono case per year. Learn more about this program to see if it’s the right fit for you.
